Kitting

Overview

Kitting is the physical act of pulling parts from their inventory locations and assembling them into the kit that goes to the manufacturing floor. It is where What did we build? moves from a plan to a physical reality — parts confirmed, pulled, and staged in the right quantities for the right job.

By the time a job reaches this stage, a published picklist already exists — the allocation work is done, the parts are committed, and the picking team knows exactly what to pull and where to find it. Each line on the picklist shows the MPN, the quantity needed, the bin or shelf location, and the MetisLogic label barcode. The picker scans each item as it is pulled to confirm the right part is going into the right kit and to update its status from Committed to Picked.

Partial kitting is supported — if a job is not fully stocked yet, the picker can pull what is available and leave the picklist open. When the remaining parts arrive and are committed, they appear on the picklist and the picker can return to complete the kit.
